What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 will have a completely new design. Microsoft certainly needs a good reason to withdraw its previous claims and abandon Windows 10 by introducing a new operating system number. And the completely new design is perfect for this. The Redmond giant has long been preparing a redesign for an update named Sun Valley (“Sun Valley”) – apparently, under this name it was Windows 11. The Sun Valley project has long flashed on the network – Microsoft has regularly leaked information about the new interface style, insiders have shared previously unknown information, and popular designers in their circles have developed realistic concepts based on all this data.
– Home and system elements will float above the bottom bar. Start is the business card and face of every recent version of Windows. Unsurprisingly, in Windows 11, developers will change it again, but not so much in terms of functionality as in terms of visuals: the Start window will be above the bottom bar. True, these minor changes make the system look much fresher. Judging by the information from the network, Microsoft will not radically change the “interior” of this menu – updates will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float and will have exactly the same design as “Start”. The action center will be combined with the control buttons – something similar has long been used in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be an island: controls will be in a separate panel, notifications will be in another, and specific elements (such as the player) in another separate panel. – Right angles will disappear, replaced by fillets. Indeed, insiders and designers disagree on this issue – some are sure that Microsoft will not change its traditions and will keep right angles, while others are sure that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the fashion for fillets. The latter better fits the definition of “all-new Windows”: menus alone are not enough to consider a new design truly new. Fillets should affect almost everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. True, even on this issue, designers’ opinions differ: some draw fillets in all possible interface elements, others combine with right angles. – There will be a transparent background with blur everywhere. There are disagreements on the Web about the style of showcase islands, the design of corners and the effect of levitation of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of windows. Most leaks and design renders show transparency and blur in all windows, be it at least the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, these effects are even found in the assembly of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project for devices with two screens and weak gadgets. The so-called acrylic transparency means the use of new effects when hovering over elements, as well as increased space between elements – the areas of the interface with which the user interacts will certainly become larger, and the page titles will be condensed.
– New font already shown. Windows 11 will probably use the default responsive font Segoe UI Variable, which has already appeared in Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders. Its advantage is that it is suitable for both small texts and large inscriptions.
